Traditional Chinese Medicine is an integral part of each one of our lives. It is both a symbol of our family history, day to day practice, and future teachings. Dr Wu Qiong followed in the footsteps of her grandfather and was brought up learning and teaching about the philosophies of care and traditional Chinese medicine. She studied both Western and traditional Chinese medicine, greatly developing her skills in a broad range of areas, including herbal therapies. After working in a multitude of urban and rural clinical care practices for forty years in China, Dr Wu followed her two sons, Dr Haidong and Dr Haisong Wang, to Canberra, Australia, over two decades ago.
Dr Haidong and Dr Haisong are both doctors of traditional chinese medicine by trade, following the footsteps of their mother, Dr Wu, like she had done her grandfather. After many years of work and experience in Chinese hospitals, the family made the decision to move abroad, to Australia, setting their sights on teaching, practising, and sharing the philosophies of traditional Chinese medicine.
Being thrown into a completely different environment is no easy challenge, especially when considering language barriers. The tight and ever-growing family began their work with the CIT, teaching Traditional Chinese Medical practices and philosophies to blossoming students. In the year 2000, the now family of five opened their first clinic in Woden, Phillip, where they have continued to serve their community until now. Dr Wu, despite being over eighty years old, is still practising Chinese medicine with her son, Dr Haisong.
The holistic and patient specific care philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine is not just a learned craft, but a lived experience over generations at the Capitol Health Centre of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We hope to continue providing our services and care to the wider community, and build a harmonious, healthier future for all our clients.
Recently, Dr Haisong Wang and Pryor Hollis set out to teach and discuss the integration between the approaches and thought processes behind Traditional Eastern Medicine and Contemporary Western Medicine. Exploring how senses of community, relationships, and changes work to shape our lives and how we may begin to navigate the complexity of health and wellbeing.
Mental, physical, and emotional states are all closely interlinked when it comes to health. If one of these states becomes weaker than the others, creating an unhealthy imbalance, there are certain things we can do to reinstate balance. This involves a
range of strategies relating to our ability to reflect and connect with ourselves and the environment. Though it may not be so easy to see, there are many instances in which we can look inwards to our own knowledge and perception to heal, before
automatically turning to regular health services.
'I Know You Know' is both the title of this book and a message, that we all have the ability within us to take charge of our own health and wellbeing. We each already have the tools and knowledge within us to self-heal and seek harmony in life - sometimes all it takes is a new way of approaching healing.
What does it mean to heal holistically? To what degree can we control our own wellbeing? Health with harmony is a complex journey, which takes many unexpected twists and turns, and dips into various aspects of life. 'I Know You Know' integrates traditional Eastern and contemporary Western medicine concepts, and we invite you to explore how your life fits into this way of thinking. Through introducing various new modes of thinking and some practical strategies to apply these to your own life, we hope to help you learn how you can navigate the complexities of your wellbeing in different ways.
Regardless of whether you come from a background of traditional or contemporary healing philosophy or experiences, or are just beginning on your healing journey, this introductory book brings us all together. With open-mindedness, we can develop greater awareness of our own wellbeing and perceive new ways in which we can apply this thinking to our own experiences and decisions in life.
In addition to this book, we also wish to share our knowledge and experience on our blog, and through future projects we hope to bring to you. This project is but the first of many that we wish to produce, we hope that you may join us in our journey of exploring how to build and maintain positive, yet balanced, health and wellbeing.
